Good morning, a few days ago, on the occasion of the release of a critical book, the TV news presented an interesting comeback on “fake news”. A highlight on the timeless existence of criticism. As far as we can see, it has always existed. Criticism sometimes hurts, especially when it comes from people we like. Living means facing criticism, growing too, and criticism can be useful and necessary when it’s constructive. Here are a few keys to dealing with criticism in a positive way: Criticism is part of life! Realize that criticism is part of your daily life. You can’t avoid it. A rule of leadership teaches that 20% of people will systematically disagree with you. So be prepared and accept that you will be criticized no matter what you say, decide or do. I hear everyone, but I don’t listen to everyone! Human beings like to give their opinion on everything, but you’re the only one who can determine who you let talk to you about your life. Choose a close circle of people you trust, people you know won’t give you unfounded advice, and listen to them when you need advice. In this way, you’ll appreciate the value of criticism and use it to help you grow. Surround yourself with encouraging people: encouragement is empowering, and when you’re surrounded by positive, optimistic and encouraging people, you’ll cope more easily with criticism, and you’ll also be boosted in your day-to-day life. A person who criticizes should make sure to share ten encouragements for one criticism. This encourages reflection on the positive and ensures that the criticism is well-founded if it hasn’t disappeared to the end of the list. Criticism is a way of learning: think of life as a laboratory, so when you’re criticized, ask yourself what might have caused it and how you could do better. And remember that constructive criticism always leads to a solution. Criticism without suggestions is not acceptable. Finally, let go: is the judgment of others really that important? Remember that others don’t live for you, they live with you. So make sure you’re yourself! That way, you’ll be happy and surrounded by people who really appreciate you. You are the actor of your own happiness and the sole master of your decisions and actions, no one else! Aristotle said centuries ago: “Criticism is something you can easily avoid by saying nothing, doing nothing and being nothing”. It has never had the power to prevent anything from happening or anyone from advancing. No matter what people say, you’re the only one who can decide whether you want to stop at her or persevere towards your own fulfillment. What would you rather do? Not be criticized or live life to the full? Dare to face others and continue your race by being yourself!
